Elite 8 - Part 1

And the Wichita Shockers continue to earn their name and bring their Cinderella journey to the Final Four.

The East and West regional brackets are complete and busted in the Main Entry bracket. Syracuse will represent the East and Wichita State will represent the West in the Final Four. I had Ohio State and Indiana going in those brackets, so I got one big goose egg, going 0-2. That keeps my score at 550, but my standings fall to 37-21.

The Midwest and South play their regional finals today. The South is an automatic loss, but at least Florida and Michigan should make it exciting. I had Georgetown and VCU in the South regional final. Florida should win in a close one to make it to face Syracuse the Final Four.

I saved the Midwest for last, because my last accurate pick is still there. I have Louisville over Duke (originally Michigan State). If Louisville falters, then my Main Entry bracket will be busted.

I'm still in 8th place in The Virtual Beer Tent. My best performing bracket is my busted Really? bracket at 630 and in 2nd place. The reason it's still performing is that I chose Michigan and Louisville to make the Final Four. My best performing bracket in the First Take group is the busted Take 3 bracket, with a score of 580 and in 13,409th place. All but the Main Entry brackets have ultimately busted.

Who will win? Who will fall? Will my Main Entry bracket survive? Help me, Obi-Wan Louisville. You're my only hope.

Stay tuned. Have a great day!!

Sweet 16 - Part II

And the Cinderella journey ends for one team and another #1 goes down. The Elite 8 are set.

Midwest

I went 1-1, scoring 40 points. Louisville moved on, but Duke beat Michigan State. That brings my total to 12-2 and 190 points. In the Elite 8, I picked Louisville over Michigan State, now Duke.

South

Busted, with a grand total 7-8 record and 90 points. The picks record up to this point is 7-7, since this round was 0-2. Alas, Florida ended Florida Gulf Coast's Cinderella journey and moved on to the Elite 8. Congrats Eagles. Record setting job well done! And we're not done. Michigan toppled #1 seed Kansas in overtime, to go to their first Elite 8 since 1994.

West

We covered this yesterday. I have Ohio State over Wisconsin, now Wichita State. Totals so far are 6-8 and 110 points.

East

Another busted regional bracket, with totals of 12-2 and 160 points.

I went 2-6 in this round, with a total of 80 points. Using picks through the Sweet 16, that brings my total to 37-19 and 550 points. Using the grand total numbers in the up to date standings confused things.

We have a new leader. Heat and Canes now has the lead in The Virtual Beer Tent. My Main Entry bracket dropped to 8th place. My best performing bracket in this group is the dead Really?, which is in 2nd place. However, I had Miami winning it all in that bracket. In the First Take group, my best performing bracket and my best bracket overall, is Take 3, which has a score of 580 points and is in 11,261st place.

Who will win? Who will fall? Will Wichita State continue its Cinderella run and surprise everybody?

Stay tuned. Have a great day!!!

Sweet 16 - Part I

The horror...the horror. An act of perfection dies a horrible death.

Okay, enough of the drama. Let's get started.

Midwest

These games will be played tonight. I picked Louisville over Oregon and Michigan State over Duke.

South

This bracket is dead. My score is as high as it will go, at 90 points and a record of 7-8.

West

No shock here. Wichita State took care of business against the LaSalle Explorers, but that was an automatic loss any, since I picked Wisconsin to make it to the Elite 8. In the other game, Ohio State beat Arizona in what is why March Madness is so great. This game, as with many others, could have gone either way. So my record for this round is 1-1 and 40 points.

East

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. This is perfection no more. As I would state in the Last Place Update, I pulled an 0-fer. Both of my picks lost, thus officially killing this bracket. Marquette dominated Miami and Syracuse easily dispatched Indiana. I had Indiana playing and beating Miami to go to the Final 4. Oh well. I went 0-2, with 0 points. My final standing and score in this regional bracket is 12-2 and 160 points.

I went 1-3 overall  and 40 points today, bring my overall standing and score in the Main Entry bracket to 36-15 and 510 points. Hopefully, things will fare better tonight. This is still my best performing bracket. I'm still in the lead in The Virtual Beer Tent, but only by ten points. My best performing bracket in the First Take group is Take 3 at 500 points. That bracket is in 5,553rd place in that group.

ESPN reported that there are no more perfect brackets.

Who will prevail? Who will fall? Will Florida Gulf Coast beat Florida tonight and make it to the Elite 8?

Stay tuned. Have a great day!!!

Last Place Update - March 25

Welcome to this week's Last Place Update. Ah, the plot thickens...

The 16-54 Charlotte Bobcats have been doing some winning. They closed the gap some, but not enough to keep them from being this week's Kings of the Cellar. They are two games ahead of the 18-52 Orlando Magic. The 22-47 Cleveland Cavaliers also returned to the radar, kicking off the New Orleans Hornets and Phoenix Suns.

Since the last update, Charlotte went a respectable 2-2 and Orlando is making a move against the Bobcats by having an 0-fer, going 0-4. The Hornets went 2-1 and the Suns went 1-3. The Cavaliers are on a five game losing streak.

This week's honorable mention goes to the 34-36 Utah Jazz. The Jazz are 2-8 in their last ten games, with a four game losing streak. Utah is also 2-12 since February 23.  They have allowed over 100 points in the last three games. This week, the Jazz spend most of the week at home. They host the Philadelphia 76ers tonight and the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday. On Friday, Utah goes to Portland to play the Trailblazers and then they finish the week at home versus the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday. The Jazz should win at least one or two games this week.

Next Losses...

Charlotte has a light week, mostly on the road. They host the Orlando Magic Wednesday and hit the road to play the New York Knicks on Friday and the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday. Based on their recent success, the Bobcats could go 2-1 or collapse and have an 0-fer. The Magic game is a pick'em and could be either team's only win this week.

Orlando starts the week at home by facing a spanking by or huge upset of the Miami Heat tonight. Then they go to Charlotte to play the Bobcats on Wednesday and return home to host the Washington Wizards on  Friday. The Magic end the week on Saturday by going to Atlanta to play the Hawks. Orlando could potentially win two games this week. Chances are, they'll have yet again another 0-fer.

Cleveland spends most of the week at home. They host the Boston Celtics on Wednesday and the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday. The Cavs end the week in the Crescent City by visiting the New Orleans Hornets. They could win one or two games or they could whiff and lose them all. Cleveland should win at least one game.

Other Stuff...

What a great time of year. The NCAA Tournament has been a blast, even though one of my overall brackets is dead and a regional bracket on my Main Entry bracket is dead. Sometimes it's a work in frustration, but it's one that you enjoy.

I made The Acts of 1 available for the NOOK a while back. It hasn't had the success on Barnes & Noble as it did on Amazon. If this continues, when I publish The Curse, it will start off exclusive to Amazon and in the KDP Select program.

Which winning streak will end first? Will Miami break the Lakers' record? Will Denver overtake Miami? Or will both teams fall woefully short?

Stay tuned. Have a great day!!!

Round of 32 - Part II

Finally, no surprising upsets. Other than the bad picks from the Round of 64, my picks fared better in this round.

Midwest

I went 1-0 yesterday, bringing the total for this round to 4-0 and a point total of 80. I'll gladly take it. My totals for this bracket are 11-1 and 150 points. In the Sweet 16 round, I picked Louisville over Oregon and Michigan State over Duke.

South

How about those Eagles of Florida Gulf Coast? Way to go!

I went 2-1 yesterday, bringing the total to 2-2 and a point total of 40. The Florida Gulf Coast vs San  Diego State is an automatic loss, since I picked Georgetown to beat both teams. My totals for this bracket are 7-5 and 90 points. In the next round, I chose VCU to beat Kansas and Georgetown to beat Florida. Since VCU and Georgetown have already been eliminated, the South bracket is officially dead and the final standings are 7-8 and 90 points. Although I thought Georgetown would make it to the Final Four, I picked against them there, so at least that pick still has hope.

So from here on, I'm pulling for Florida Gulf Coast in this bracket.

West

Once again, I went 1-1, bring the Round of 32 total to 2-2 and 40 points. As stated yesterday, the Ole Miss vs LaSalle game was an automatic loss. This bracket almost died, but Ohio State pulled out the win in the end. This bracket's totals are 5-7 and 70 points. In the Sweet 16 round, the Wichita State vs LaSalle game is an automatic loss, since I picked against both teams in the Round of 64. I chose Ohio State over Arizona and that's a pick 'em game.

East

The streak continues. Both of my picks struggled, but made it through, going 2-0 and 40 points. My round total is 4-0 and 80 points. The bracket total is 12-0 and 160 points. In the next round, I chose Indiana over Syracuse and Miami over Marquette.

I went 6-2 yesterday in the Round of 32, bring my total to 12-4 and 240 points. My overall standing is 35-13 and 470 points. That keeps me in a tie for first in The Virtual Beer Tent with my dead bracket, Really?.

The Main Entry bracket is still my best performing bracket so far. My Take 3 is the best performing bracket I have in the First Take group. It has 460 points and is in 1,964th place. My worst performing bracket that is not dead is my No #1. It has 430 points, placing 12,282.

Note: This week's Last Place Update will be posted later today.

Who will prevail? Who will fall? Will Wichita State and Florida Gulf Coast move on to the Elite 8?

Stay tuned. Have a great day!!

Round of 32 - Part I

And the first #1 seed goes down. Gonzaga falls to a team that's earning their nickname, the Shockers. One of my brackets is dead. Let's see how the Main Entry is doing.

Midwest

I went 3-0 here, scoring 60 points. That brings my overall Midwest record to 10-1 and 130 points. Creighton plays Duke and my pick is the Blue Devils (kind of hard to say, if you're a Phantom Regiment alum). As long as Louisville and Michigan State continue to the Elite 8, this should be a solid bracket...

South

...unlike here. I went 0-1, picking VCU over Michigan. My overall South record is now 5-4 and a total of 50 points. There are three games on tap. I picked Kansas over North Carolina (originally Villanova), Florida over Minnesota (originally UCLA), and the Florida Gulf Coast vs San Diego State game is an automatic loss, since I picked Georgetown to win. As stated yesterday, I am pulling for Florida Gulf Coast, though the Aztecs should take care of business.

West

And a #1 falls early, officially killing my Really? bracket. Is Wichita State this year's Cinderella team? Could this be a home state NCAA Championship game, with Wichita State going up against Kansas? If they did, it would be the first time since 1962 that two teams from the same state played for the championship, when Cincinnati beat Ohio State for the NCAA Championship in 1961 and 1962. However, it probably won't happen here.

At least yesterday wasn't a disaster. I went 1-1, scoring 20 points. My West record is now 4-6, with 50 points. That's the best I can do today. The Ole Miss vs LaSalle game is an automatic loss, since I picked against both teams in the first round. I picked Ohio State over Iowa State (originally Notre Dame).

East

So far, so good. I went 2-0 here, scoring 40 points, and still sporting a perfect bracket at 10-0 and 120 points. In today's games, I chose Indiana over Temple, and Miami over Illinois.

A fellow Phantom Regiment alum brought up a good point that should be covered here. Although I've been talking about wins and losses, the point totals from those picks are more important and better reflect the accuracy AND impact of my picks, because they increase in value as the tournament progresses. The win/loss totals reflect the accuracy without the impact.

I went 6-2 so far in the Round of 32, bringing the total to 29-11. Here is why the point totals are more important. The Main Entry scored a 120, bringing my overall score to 350. That puts me in a tie for the lead in The Virtual Beer Tent with my Really? bracket. However. as previously stated, the Really? bracket is officially dead.

The Main Entry is also my best performing bracket right now. My worst performing bracket is the No #1, with an overall score of 310. In the First Take group, my Take 3 bracket has a score of 340, placing 3,450.

Who will stand? Who will fall? Will Wichita State or Florida Gulf Coast be this year's Cinderella team?

Stay tuned.

Round of 64 - Part II

Bracket killer? Again? Who in the world is Florida Gulf Coast? How many of us missed that pick? Oh well. Let's get this thing started.

Midwest

At least I fared better here. The rest of my picks won, making my total record for this bracket 7-1. I picked Missouri over Colorado State, but the Rams now have to face Louisville in the Round of 32. The Cardinals should prevail. The rest of them are pick 'em games. I chose Oregon over St. Louis, Michigan State over Memphis, and Duke over Creighton.

South

Oh, the horror of it all! The Eagles of Florida Gulf Coast just killed this bracket in one decisive, upsetting swoop by beating the team I picked to go to the Final Four, Georgetown. Congrats Florida Gulf Coast!! Job well done.

I went 5-3 overall in this bracket. My picks in this bracket could bring me down in The Virtual Beer Tent. Since I picked Georgetown over San Diego State in the Round of 32, I'm pulling for Florida Gulf Coast. I also picked Kansas to beat North Carolina, even though I chose Villanova over the Tarheels. I picked VCU in an upset win over Michigan and Florida over Minnesota. My original pick was UCLA, who lost to the Gophers.

West

The train wreck continues. This is my worst bracket, at 3-5. In the Round of 32, I only have three games with correct picks. I have Gonzaga over Wichita State. I wrongly chose Pitt over the Shockers. Ole Miss plays LaSalle. I chose both of their opponents, so no win/loss credit here. I picked Arizona over New Mexico, who lost to Arizona's current opponent Harvard. The Wildcats should take care of business against the Crimson. Finally, I chose Ohio State over Iowa State, who beat my original pick to face the Buckeyes, Notre Dame. My picks should be easy wins, but then again, that's why they play the game.

East

There is a disaster on one coast and perfection on the other. I went 8-0 in the East. Whew! That brings my Round of 64 record to 23-9. That's pretty good, except for the Georgetown loss. Now to the picks. I have Indiana over Temple, Syracuse over Cal, Marquette over Butler, and Miami over Illinois. Let's hope this streak continues.

My Main Entry bracket has a score of 230 points and an overall ranking of 724,707. My worst performing bracket, where I chose all of the #1 seeds to go to the Final Four has a score of 210 points and an overall ranking of 3,411,395. My best performing bracket is my Take 3 bracket. It has a score of 240 points and an overall ranking of 238,732. Take 3 is in the First Take group.

Speaking of groups, I am currently in 3rd place among my fellow Phantom Regiment alums in The Virtual Beer Tent and 1,962 in the First Take Group. I'm ahead of Stephen A. Smith and Jemele Hill in that group.

Who's picks will prevail? Will there be another bracket killing upset win? Stay tuned. I will.

Have a great day!!!

Round of 64 - Part I

...And this is why they play the game. My perfect brackets are already gone. Thank you Harvard, you bracket killer. Oh well.

On my main pick sheet, two regions are still intact.

Midwest

I went 6-1 yesterday, picking Missouri over Colorado State. Today's upset special could be Creighton vs Cincinnati, which I picked Creighton to win.

South

This is one of the two intact brackets so far. There are a few games today that could go either way, such as North Carolina vs Villanova or San Diego State vs Oklahoma. Now how many brackets would be broken if the Hilltoppers of Western  Kentucky upset #1 seed  Kansas? Shouldn't  happen today.

West

Can you imagine the panic if Southern University would have upset Gonzaga? How many people picked Gonzaga to win it all? Congrats to Louisiana's own Southern Jaguars for making a game out of what should have been a total spanking. On to the picks.

This was my worst performing bracket of the day yesterday, going 2-2. I chose Pitt over Wichita State and picked against the perfect bracket killing Harvard Crimson. There are more pick' em games on tap. Wisconsin faces Ole Miss, Notre Dame goes against Iowa State. Will there be a stunning upset with the Iona vs Ohio State game, or even Kansas State vs LaSalle? Again, that's why they play the game.

East

This was the other intact bracket of the day yesterday. The two pick 'em games today in this bracket are Temple vs North Carolina State and Colorado vs Illinois. It would be nice if NC State made a Final Four run on the 20th anniversary of their historic national championship, but it won't  happen. Yes, I chose Temple.

On my main bracket, I have 130 points with an overall rank of 297,172. It's not my worst score, but also not my best. This bracket is also in the Virtual Beer Tent group, which is a group of alumni of the Phantom Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps. There, I'm tied for 2nd. A fellow alum I once marched with has one more correct pick than me.

My best performing bracket, although not in the Virtual Beer Tent, would have had me in a tie for first. However, it is in the First Take show group. It is ranked 259 with a score of 140.

Which pick 'em will be a spanking? Will another low seed upset a top seed?

As I will do, stay tuned.

Random Thoughts

I took a gander at this blog today and realized that it has had nothing but Last Place Update entries for the past month. It's way past time for other stuff, so here are some random thoughts.

  • I haven't filled out my NCAA Tournament brackets yet. However, I have decided how they will be covered here.
  • What happened to the "Today in..." entries? Writing them took time away from finishing The Acts of 1 and The Curse. Hopefully I'll be able to write more this year, now that one book is already published and the other is almost there.
  • Okay, can't resist. Here's a "Today in..." entry. Today in 1966, Texas Western (now UTEP) pulled off one of the greatest upsets ever by beating top ranked Kentucky in the NCAA national championship game 72-65. Bobby Joe Hill led all scorers with 20. Future NBA head coach Pat Riley led Kentucky with 19 points.
  • The Denver Nuggets go to Oklahoma City to play the Thunder tonight to try to extend their 12 game win streak. If Denver wins, then their next real challenge will be the San Antonio Spurs next Wednesday.
  • The New Orleans Saints made a pitch to DB Nnamdi Asomugha. Was it that long ago when Drew Brees torched the Philadelphia Eagles' secondary, ESPECIALLY Nnamdi Asomugha?
  • Bobcats win!!! Bobcats win!!! Bobcats win!! Yup, the Charlotte Bobcats beat the Washington Wizards last night, 119-114. Since January 18, when the Bobcats score over 100 points, they win.
  • Just a little more trivia, 30 years ago this month, the USFL started its inaugural season.
  • Speaking of the USFL, here's a trivia question: Who was the last USFL player to play in the NFL? It's one of those snakebite questions. The answer? Doug Flutie, who ended his playing career in 2005.
  • Still working on the blurb to The Curse. At least it's closer to being done.
  • My ebook, The Acts of 1 is now available for the NOOK at Barnes & Noble. Click the link and check it out.

Have a great day!!!

Last Place Update - March 18

Welcome to this week's Last Place Update. The waters near the cellar are murky, so let's get started.

Bobcats win!! Bobcats win!! Bobcats win!!

Okay, they only won one game, but Charlotte's win over the Boston Celtics on  Tuesday does break their ten game losing streak. However, the 14-52 Bobcats are still this week's Kings of the Cellar. They went 1-2 last week, but still have a 3.5 game lead over the 18-49 Orlando Magic. The Magic whiffed all three games and went 0-3.

Now here's where it gets murky. The 23-42 Washington Wizards went 3-1 last week and moved themselves off the radar. Way to go Wizards!!

Two other teams made moves to get themselves on the radar, one of them a return trip. The 22-45 New Orleans Pelicans, uh, Hornets and the Phoenix Suns are 7.5 games behind the Bobcats and 4 games behind the Magic. The Hornets are 2-8 in their last ten games, losers of their last three. The Suns are 1-6 in their last seven games, losers of their last four.

This week's honorable mention goes to the 23-45 Detroit Pistons. Detroit is 1-11 in their last dozen games, losers of their last eight. In all but two of those losses, the Pistons allowed their opponents to score more than 100 points. They start this week at home against the Brooklyn Nets tonight. Then the spend the rest of the week along the Atlantic coast by visiting the Miami Heat on Friday and to Charlotte to play the Bobcats on Saturday. The Pistons could get two wins this week, but will probably only get one.

Next Losses...

Charlotte will spend most of their week at home. They host the improving Washington Wizards tonight, the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday, and as previously stated, the Detroit Pistons on Saturday. The Bobcats will finish the week on the road on Sunday in Miami to take on the Heat. This has all the makings of an 0-fer, but they did surprise the Celtics. Could Charlotte stun Miami on Sunday? Actually, that's possible, but not probable. The Bobcats could win one, maybe two games, but will most likely post another 0-fer.

Unlike Charlotte, Orlando will spend most of their short week on the road. The Magic will go to Indiana to play the Pacers on Tuesday and to New York to play the Knicks on Wednesday. Then they return home on Friday to lose to, us play the Oklahoma City Thunder. Unless Orlando has a good game or one of their opponents has a bad game,  Otherwise, the Magic will whiff through their games and extend their losing streak to six games.

New Orleans has a homestand this week. They host the Golden State Warriors tonight, the Boston Celtics  on Wednesday, and the Memphis Grizzlies on  Friday. They could win one game, depending on which Hornets team shows up. If the one who put together a couple of winning streaks shows, then they could go 2-1. If last week's team shows, then it's an 0-fer. They should get at least one win this week.

Phoenix will also spend their week at home. They host the Los Angeles Lakers tonight, the Washington Wizards on Wednesday, the Minnesota  Timberwolves on Friday, and the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday. This is a tough one to call. The Suns should win one or two games this week, but could also lose them all. Chances are, Phoenix will go 2-2.

Other Stuff...

As predicted, Grambling State went one and done in the SWAC Tournament. However, they did lose  by less than ten points, the first time this season. Maybe next year.

Let the madness begin!! Yes, it's March Madness and the NCAA Tournament berths are filled. This appears to be one of the tougher tournaments to call. We'll see.

There's a lot of hype over the Miami Heat's 22 game winning streak, but there's another team with a nice winning streak. The Denver Nuggets have won 11 straight. They go to Chicago to play the Bulls tonight and to Oklahoma City to play the Thunder on Tuesday. The Nuggets spend the rest of the week in the rarified air of Denver hosting the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday and the Sacramento Kings on Saturday. The streak should end in Oklahoma City, but if it doesn't, Denver should go undefeated this week.

Will Miami and Denver continue their streaks? Will any of the #1's fall early in the NCAA Tournament? Will anybody threaten Charlotte in their quest to repeat as Kings of the Cellar Champions?

Stay tuned. Have a great day!!!

Last Place Update - March 11

Welcome to this week's Last Place Update. And the push has begun...

The 13-50 Charlotte Bobcats have made a move to defend their title as Kings of the Cellar by increasing their lead over the improving 18-46 Orlando Magic by 4.5 games and by 7.5 games over the 20-41 Washington Wizards. Since the last update, Charlotte has had three straight 0-fer weeks by going 0-3. The Bobcats have lost ten straight and are 4-20 since January 19. All of their last ten losses were by more than ten points. The Magic has a respectable week, going 2-2, as did the Wizards.

This week's honorable mention goes to the 23-39 Philadelphia 76ers. They are playing like their 1973 counterparts by going 1-9 in their last ten games and 2-13 since February 6. They lost their last four games by at least eight points. The 76ers have a homestand this week. They host the Brooklyn Nets tonight, the Miami Heat on Wednesday, and the Indiana Pacers on Saturday. This has all the makings of an 0-fer week, but Philadelphia should get a win and maybe even possibly pulling an upset on the Heat. If they play well, the 76ers should go 1-2.

Next Losses...

Charlotte starts the week at home by hosting the Boston Celtics on Tuesday. They finish the week on the road by going to Toronto on Wednesday to play the Raptors and to Boston for a rematch against the Celtics. Can you say 13 game losing streak?

Orlando hosts the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday and finish the week on the road. They travel to Oklahoma City on Friday to play the Thunder and to Milwaukee on Sunday to play the Bucks. They Magic should win one of these games and could pull off an upset and win two.

Washington starts the week on the road by going to Cleveland to play the Cavaliers on Tuesday. This game could take the once Kings of the Cellar leading Wizards off the Update's radar and Cleveland back on it. The end the week at home by hosting the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday, the New Orleans Hornets on Friday, and the Phoenix Suns on Saturday. The Wizards should win at least one game, but will likely go 2-2 again.

Other Stuff...

The Weber State Lady Wildcats completed their season 0-fer by going 0-29. Maybe next year.

Grambling State also pulled off their season long 0-fer by going 0-27. They face Alabama A&M in the SWAC Tournament this week. They should end their season at one and done.

On March 12, 1987, my University of New Orleans Privateers won their only NCAA Tournament game against the BYU Cougars 83-79. Two days later, the Alabama Crimson Tide made 73 percent of their shots and spanked my Bucs 101-76. UNO finished the 1987 season at 26-4. UNO guard Ledell Eackles and forward Ronnie Grandison went on to play in the NBA.

With the NCAA Tournament on the horizon, we are entering the best part of the college basketball season. So here's a little all-time season trivia: The Duke Blue Devils all-time record is 1998-838. Coach Mike Krzyzewski is 881-236 and has more wins than the next four best Duke coaches combined. Duke is 79-24 in the NCAA Tournament on Coach K's watch and he has more postseason wins and national championships than all of his predecessors combined.

Have a great day!!!

Last Place Update - March 4

Welcome to this week's Last Place Update. Let's get started.

The 13-46 Charlotte Bobcats continue their stranglehold and are on well on their way to defending their title as Kings of the Cellar. The 16-44 Orlando Magic slightly closed the gap to 2.5 games. The 19-39 Washington Wizards bring up the rear at 6.5 games back. Since the last update, Charlotte puled an 0-fer, going 0-3. Their losing streak is now at six games. Orlando went 1-3 and Washington fared a little better, going 2-2.

This week's honorable mention goes to 27-31 Portland Trailblazers. They are 2-8 in their last ten games and 7-16 since January 11. The Trailblazers start this week at home, hosting the Charlotte Bobcats tonight. Then Portland will spend the rest of their week on the road. They visit the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday, the San Antonia Spurs on Friday, and the New Orleans Pelicans, uh, Hornets on Sunday. The Trailbazers should go 1-3, but if they play well, they could break even at 2-2.

Next Losses...

As previously stated, Charlotte visits the Portland Trailblazers tonight. Then they return home to host the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday and the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday. The Bobcats finish the week in Washington on Saturday to take on the improving Wizards. This has all the makings of yet another 0-fer. If they play well, Charlotte could win one game.

Orlando visits the New Orleans Hornets tonight and then go to Miami on Wednesday to get spanked by the Heat. Then the Magic spend the rest of the week at home. They host the Indiana Pacers on Friday and the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday. This, too, has all the makings of an 0-fer, but the Magic could pull off one win if they play well.

Washington goes on the road to face the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday and the Brooklyn Nets on Friday. The finish the week at home against the Charlotte Bobcats on Sunday. Believe it or not, the Wizards could have a reverse 0-fer and go 3-0. Based on their improved play, Washington should win at least two of the games. Watch out, Cleveland, Sacramento, and Phoenix. The Wizards could put one or more of you on the radar.

Other Stuff...

In women's college basketball, Weber State continue their losing ways and are now 0-27. The Lady Wildcats finish their season on the road this week. They go to Portland State to play the Vikings on Thursday and to Eastern Washington to play the Eagles on Saturday. Weber State has an excellent chance to finish the season at 0-29.

My University of New Orleans Lady Privateers pulled an 0-fer and finished the season at 3-23. Maybe next year.

Grambling State continue to lose and are now 0-27. The Tigers lost by more than ten points in each of last week's losses.

Will Grambling or Weber State get a win before the season ends? Will one or both teams go winless?

Stay tuned. Have a great day!!!
