NBA Last Place Update - January 14

Welcome to this week's Last Place Update. Let's have some fun.

The 6-28 Washington Wizards continue the losing, uh, winning ways this week. Even though they won their last two games, the Wizards are still this week's Kings of the Cellar. They lead the 9-30 Cleveland Cavaliers by half a game and the defending Kings of the Cellar 9-27 Charlotte Bobcats by two games. The 11-26 New Orleans Hornets went on a bit of a tear and going 3-1 since the last update and 6-4 in their last ten games, taking themselves off the radar for now.

This week's honorable mention goes to the 16-18 Minnesota Timberwolves. They are 3-7 in their last ten games, losing their last three. Minnesota is 4-9 since December 17. They also allowed opponents to score in triple digits for the past five games and seven of the last eight. The Timberwolves are 3-5 in that stretch.

The 1973 Philadelphia 76ers were 3-31 after 34 games. Last year's Bobcats were 4-30 after the same number of games.

Next Losses...

Washington has a busy week, starting today. They host the Orlando Magic tonight and then go on a road trip out west. The Wizards will visit Sacramento to play the Kings on Wednesday, go east to Denver to play the Nuggets, and finish the week on Saturday, when they go to Los Angeles to play the Clippers. Depending on which Wizards team shows up, they could go 2-2 or have an 0-fer. Washington should win at least one game this week.

Cleveland will finish their road trip out west this week. They will visit the Sacramento Kings tonight and then go to Portland on Wednesday to play the Trailblazers. They head eastward on to Salt Lake City on Saturday to take on the Utah Jazz. Cleveland is 1-4 in their last five road games and will most likely win only one game or have an 0-fer this week.

Charlotte goes to Boston tonight to play the Celtics. They host the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday and then go to Orlando on Friday to play the Magic. The Bobcats finish up the week by hosting the Sacramento Kings on Saturday.Unless the Magic or Pacers play pitifully, Charlotte should have an 0-fer this week.

Other Thoughts...

When making a prediction about last week's BCS National Championship game, I said, "Unlike last year with LSU, this should be a good game." Well, if you're an Alabama fan, then that prediction is correct, but that's it. Maybe if they played three out of four, they would be good games, but not that one. Congrats Alabama!

Duke, Michigan, and Arizona are still unbeaten in college basketball, In fact, both the men's and women's teams at Duke are undefeated so far this season. Who will remain unbeaten?

On the flip side, Maryland - Eastern Shore and Grambling State for the men, and Weber State, St. Peter's, and Jacksonville State for the women, are winless so far this season. Who will get their first victory?

It appears my book, The Acts of 1 - A Collection of Short Stories, has completed its initial sales cycle. It sold better than expected since its publication in October. It is and will remain available on Amazon for the kindle and paperback. Now it's time to get the next two books finished and published.

Have a great day!!!
