I was checking out some of the college games happening this week
and ran across a few gems worth mentioning.
The #2 LSU Tigers host Northwestern State (LA) this
Saturday. This will be the first time
the two teams played each other in almost 70 years. They played ten times from 1911-42. LSU is 10-0 in the series and Northwestern
State has never scored on LSU…ever.
Georgia will play #12 South Carolina at home this week. In the first ten meetings between Georgia and
South Carolina (1894-1924), all but two of the games ended in a shutout. Georgia won both non-shutout games, 10-5 (1901) and 29-6
(1908). Georgia leads the series
46-15-2. South Carolina has never won
more than two consecutive games against Georgia. The last two were 2000 and 2001.
#13 Oregon will play Nevada for the seventh time in their
series. The Ducks lead it 6-1. Nevada won their first ever meeting in 1947
and has never beaten Oregon since.
Toledo makes the trip to face #15 Ohio State. This is their third ever meeting. As with LSU and Northwestern State, Toledo
has never beaten Ohio State, nor have they ever scored on the Buckeyes.
In the first ten games between Auburn and #16 Mississippi State(1905-19),
Auburn won all of them, seven by shutout.
The Bulldogs got a measure of revenge by beating the Tigers in four
consecutive shutouts (1945-48).
