It’s been a great day of football. Some games went as expected, but others didn’t. I reviewed the college gems entry from
Thursday and had some thoughts.
#1 Oklahoma beat #5 Florida State 23-13. I was hoping the Seminoles could pull this
one out, since they haven’t beaten the Sooners since their Gator Bowl win in
1965. And again, neither team has ever
shut out the other.
The #3 LSU Tigers improved its recent record versus #25 Mississippi
State to 19-1 since 1992. The Bulldogs
had a chance early, but the Tiger defense was too much.
I was pulling for Tennessee to upset Florida. The Gators have dominated the series in
recent years and I was hoping The Vols could pull off the victory. Florida’s win streak over Tennessee is now
seven.
#19 Baylor spanked Stephen F. Austin State 48-0. That was no surprise. What’s cool about this for Baylor is that
Lumberjacks still have never scored on the Bears.
Is Auburn overrated or is Clemson that good? In a battle of the Tigers, Auburn had Clemson over a rail in the first
half. They had the lead and had Clemson
gassed. But hats off to Clemson; they
regrouped, came back, and won the game 38-24.
Now Auburn has to go to another Death Valley in five weeks to take on
the LSU Tigers. Was this loss a sign of
things to come?
Here are a few other thoughts…
There are some good NFL games tomorrow. Of course, I’ll watch the Saints-Bears
game. Although the Saints are favored,
don’t count the Bears out. They beat a
good Falcons team. If the defense shows
up, the Who Dat Nation will have a win to celebrate.
The Lions host the Kansas City Chiefs. This game may prove whether Detroit is for
real this year or not. Even with their
injuries, I like Detroit at home. If
they win, it will be the first time the Lions went 2-0 since 2007.
Philadelphia goes to the Georgia Dome to take on the Atlanta
Falcons. There is talk about whether it’s
Ryan’s house or Vick’s house. I don’t see Atlanta scoring only 12 or letting Michael Vick and Philly
roll over them. Vick will make a difference, but I believe Matt Ryan and the Falcons will rule the
house.
