Some Top 10 College Football Series Trivia

Welcome to this week's NCAA football Top 10 series trivia.

The #1 Alabama Crimson Tide have a bye this week. They visit new SEC foe Missouri next week.

The Washington Huskies visit the #2 Oregon Ducks in Eugene. The Huskies lead the series 58-41-5, but the Ducks have won the last eight games against the Huskies. They first met in 1900, when Oregon blanked Washington 43-0. The highest scoring game came in 2007, when Oregon won 55-34. The Ducks have scored at least 30 points against the Huskies in every game since 2004. The last time the Huskies shut out the Ducks was 54-0 in 1977. The last time the Ducks shut out the Huskies was 58-0 in 1973. Their last tie was 21-21 in 1962.

The #3 Florida State Seminoles invade Carter-Finley Stadium to take on the North Carolina State Wolfpack in Raleigh. The Seminoles lead the series 22-10, and winning four of their last five games against the Wolfpack. They first met in 1952, a North Carolina State victory, 13-7. The highest scoring game in the series came in 2003, when the Seminoles won 50-44. The last time the Seminoles shut out the Wolfpack was last season, 34-0. The last time the Wolfpack shut out the Seminoles was 3-0 in 1965.

The #4 LSU Tigers go to The Swamp to play the #10 Florida Gators in Gainesville. Florida leads the series 30-25-3. LSU is 6-4 against Florida since 2002. They first met in 1937, when LSU shut Florida out 19-0. The highest scoring game in the series came in 2007, when the Gators dominated the Tigers 51-21. The last time the Gators shut out the Tigers was 16-0 in 1991. The last time the Tigers shut out the Gators was 14-0 in 1963, the third consecutive shutout and the fourth shutout in five games against Florida. Their last tie was 21-21 in 1984.

In the second of two games with two Top 10 ranked SEC teams, the #5 Georgia Bulldogs will march in to Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia to take on the #6 South Carolina Gamecocks. Georgia dominates this series 46-16-2, but the Gamecocks are 3-2 against the Bulldogs since 2007. They first met in 1894, when Georgia cruised over South Carolina 40-0. The highest scoring game in the series happened last season when South  Carolina won between the hedges 45-42. The last time the Bulldogs shut out the Gamecocks was 18-0 in 2006. The last time the Gamecocks shut out the Bulldogs was 2-0 in 1904. Both of their ties were the same score, 7-7, in 1962 and 1964.

The #7 Kansas State Wildcats will host their state rivals, the Kansas Jayhawks in The Sunflower Showdown in Manhattan. Kansas leads the series 65-39-5, but Kansas State is 16-5 against the Jayhawks since 1991. They could also call the series The Shutout Showdown, because there are 35 shutouts in the series, including ties. In fact, Kansas shut out Kansas State every year from 1960-65. They first met in 1902, when Kansas shut the Wildcats out 16-0, and shut out Kansas State in three of their first four meetings. The highest scoring game in the series came last season when the Wildcats won 59-21. The last time the Wildcats shut out the Jayhawks was 64-0 in 2002. The last time the Jayhawks shut out the Wildcats was 28-0 in 1975. Their last tie was 17-17 in 1987.

The #8 West Virginia Mountaineers will go down south to face the #11 Texas Longhorns in Austin. They are only meeting for the second time ever. Texas won their first game in 1956, 7-6.

The #9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish will take on the Miami Hurricanes in South Bend. Notre Dame leads the series 16-7-1. All of Miami's victories against the Irish came from those vaunted Hurricane teams from the 1980's. They first met in 1955, when Notre Dame won 14-0. The highest scoring game in the series came in 1976, when the Irish won 40-27. The last time the Hurricanes shut out the Irish was 24-0 in 1987. The last time the Irish shut out the Hurricanes was 20-0 in 1978. There only tie was 0-0 in 1965.
