Some Top 10 College Football Series Trivia

Welcome to this week's NCAA Top 10 series trivia. Let's get started.

   We have yet another Top 10 SEC game. The #5 LSU Tigers will host the #1 Alabama Crimson Tide. These teams are playing for the second time in 2012. Alabama leads the series 46-25-5 and is 3-2 against the Tigers, including a 21-0 BCS National Championship victory in January. Bama is 24-9-3 in Baton Rouge. However, the Tigers are 4-2 against the Tide in Baton Rouge since 2000. They first met in 1895, when LSU won 12-6. The highest scoring game in the series was a 41-34 LSU victory in 2007. The last time LSU shut out Alabama was 31-0 in 2002. The last time Alabama shut out LSU (in the regular season) was 27-0 in 1997. Their last tie was 14-14 in 1985.

   The #2 Kansas State Wildcats will host the #24 Oklahoma State Cowboys in Manhattan. Kansas State trails in the series 22-36 and are 1-4 against the Cowboys since 2002. The Wildcats also trail the series at home 14-17, but are 6-1 against the Cowboys in Manhattan since 1990. They first met in 1908, when Kansas State won 40-10. The highest scoring game in the series was last season when Oklahoma State won 52-45. The last time Kansas State shut out Oklahoma State was 10-0 in 1992. The lat time Oklahoma State shut out Kansas State was also 10-0, but in 1980. There are no ties in the series.

   The Pittsburgh Panthers go to South Bend to take on the #3 Notre Dame Fighting  Irish. Notre Dame leads the series 46-20-1 and are 14-4 against the Panthers since 1988. The Irish are 20-10 at home and are 8-1 against Pitt since 1988. They first met in 1909, when Notre Dame blanked Pitt 6-0. The highest scoring game in the series was in 1965, when the Irish spanked the Panthers 69-13. The last time Notre Dame shut out Pitt was 44-0 in 1993. The last time Pitt shut out Notre Dame was 26-0 in 1936. Their only tie was 0-0 in 1911.

   The #4 Oregon Ducks will invade the LA Coliseum to take on the #17 USC Trojans. Oregon trails in the series 18-38-2, but the Ducks are 8-6 against the Trojans since 1994. Oregon trails in Los Angeles 7-25-1, but is 3-3 against the Trojans since 1994. They first met in 1915, when the Ducks blanked the Trojans 34-0. The highest scoring game in the series was a 53-32 Oregon victory in 2010. The last time USC shut out Oregon was 53-0 in 1976. The last time Oregon shut out USC was 25-0 in 1958. Their last tie was 7-7 in 1980.

   The #6 Georgia Bulldogs will host the Ole Miss Rebels. Georgia leads the series 31-12-1 and  have won the last nine games against the Rebels, not losing to them since 1996. The Bulldogs also dominate the series at home 17-5-1 and are 6-1 in Athens against the Rebels since 1992. They first met in 1940, when Ole Miss won 28-14. The highest scoring game in the series was a 49-21 Georgia victory in 1985. The last time Georgia shut out Ole Miss was 49-0 in 1974. Ole Miss has never shut out Georgia. Their only tie was 14-14 in 1941.

   The Missouri Tigers will go to Gainesville for the first time to play the #7 Florida Gators. They only played each other once before, in the Sugar Bowl in 1966, where the Tigers beat Heisman Trophy winner and The Ole Ball Coach, Steve Spurrier, 20-18.

   Speaking of The Ole Ball Coach, the #8 South Carolina Gamecocks have a bye this week. They host the Arkansas Razorbacks next week.

   The #9 Florida State Seminoles also have a bye this week. They'll go to Blacksburg to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies next Thursday.

   The #10 Louisville Cardinals will host the Temple Owls. Louisville trails in the series 2-3, but have won the last two games against the Owls. The Cardinals are 1-2 at home against Temple. They first met in 1980, when Temple won 17-12. The highest scoring game in the series was a 55-14 Temple victory in 1982. The only shutout in the series came the last time they met, in 2006, when Louisville nailed Temple 62-0.
