Some Top 10 College Football Series Trivia

Welcome to this week's NCAA Top 10 college football series trivia. Let's get started.

The #1 Alabama Crimson Tide hosts the #11 Mississippi State Bulldogs in Tuscaloosa. Alabama owns the series 76-17-3. The Tide are 10-3 against the Bulldogs since 1999 and winners of the last four games. The Tide are also 7-2 against the Bulldogs at home since 1997. They first met in 1896, when Alabama blanked Mississippi State 20-0. The highest scoring game in the series was in 1988, when Alabama won 53-34. The last time Alabama shut out Mississippi State was 17-0 in 2005. The last time Mississippi State shut out Alabama was 14-0 in 1941. Their last tie was 7-7 in 1953.

In the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, the #2 Florida Gators take on the #10 Georgia Bulldogs. This is, once again, another Top 10 SEC game. Florida leads the series 48-40-2 and is 18-4 against the Bulldogs since 1990. They first met in 1904, when Georgia nailed Florida 52-0. In fact, Georgia shut out Florida in six of the first seven games in the series (1904-27), all Georgia victories. The highest scoring game in the series was in 2007, when Georgia won 42-30. The last time Georgia shut out Florida was 27-0 in 1984. The last time Florida shut out Georgia was 44-0 in 1982. Their last tie was 13-13 in 1969.

The #15 Texas Tech Red Raiders will invade Manhattan to play the #3 Kansas State Wildcats. Texas Tech leads the series 8-4 and is 5-1 against the Wildcats since 2001. The series is tied 2-2 in Manhattan, but Kansas State hasn't beaten Texas Tech at home since 2000. They first met in 1933, when Texas Tech won 6-0, the lone shutout of the series. The highest scoring game in the series was in 2005, when the Red Raiders spanked the Wildcats 59-20.

The #4 Oregon Ducks hosts the Colorado Buffaloes. The series is tied 8-8, with Oregon winning the last two meetings. Oregon is 3-2 at home against Colorado and the Buffaloes haven't won in Eugene since 1967. They met in three bowl games: the Fiesta Bowl (BCS 2002), the Aloha Bowl (1998), and the Cotton Bowl (1996). They first met in 1949, with Oregon winning 42-14. The highest scoring game in the series came in the Aloha Bowl in 1998, when Colorado won 51-43. There is only one shut out in the series, in 1956, with Oregon taking it 35-0.

In the second of two Top 10 matchups, the #5 Notre Dame fighting Irish will travel to Norman for the first time since 1966 to take on the #8 Oklahoma Sooners. Notre Dame leads the series 8-1 and is 6-0 against the Sooners since 1957. They first met in 1952, with Notre Dame winning 27-21. That was Oklahoma's last loss before going on their 47 game winning streak from 1952-57. Oklahoma finally lost to, you guessed it, Notre Dame in 1957. The highest scoring game in the series was in 1968, when Notre Dame won 45-21. The last time Notre Dame shut out Oklahoma was 7-0 in 1957. Oklahoma's lone win in the series was a shutout, 40-0 in 1956.

The #6 LSU Tigers have a bye this week. They host Alabama next week.

The Washington Huskies will host the #7 Oregon State Beavers in Seattle. Washington leads the series 58-34-4 and is 7-1 against the Beavers since 2004. Oregon State is 19-33-2 when they visit Washington, but won the last time there were there, 35-24. They first met in 1897, when Oregon State blanked the Huskies 16-0. The highest scoring games in the series came in 1981, when Washington won 56-17, and 2001, when Oregon State won 49-24. The last time Washington shut out Oregon State was 41-0 in 1979. The last time Oregon State shut out Washington was 3-0 in 1961. Their last tie was 14-14 in 1948.

The #9 USC Trojans travel to Tucson to take on the Arizona Wildcats. Southern Cal dominates the series like a football score, 28-7 and is 9-1 against the Wildcats since 2001. USC is 12-3 at Arizona, last losing to the home team Wildcats in 1999. They first met in 1916, when Southern Cal won 20-7. The highest scoring games in the series were both USC victories by the same score, 48-41, in 1982 and 2011. The last time USC shut out Arizona was 45-0 in 2003. Arizona has never shut out USC.
