Last Place Update

The 40-84 Houston Astros lead the 47-74 Baltimore Orioles by 8.5 games for MLB’s Worst.  The Astros won their last two games and are now tied with the win total for the 1962 Mets.  They are officially out of danger for supplanting the Mets and should easily clear the next hurdle, the 2003 Detroit Tigers, who finished that season at 43-119.

The 51-74 Kansas City Royals are 2 games behind Baltimore and are 3.5 games ahead of the 53-69 Seattle Mariners.  The defending champion Pittsburgh Pirates are at a comfortable distance from the Astros, with a 58-64 record.  On this day last year, the Pirates were 40-81.

At this pace, the Houston Astros could finish with a 52-110 record.
